Manchester City Logo redesign 2016Posted in: Branding and Identity, Design, Manchester
This Christmas, Manchester City fans got an early present in the form of a club crest redesign. The new design was meant to be unveiled on Boxing day but the Intellectual Property Office leaked it days earlier.
The fans have had mixed reactions to it, with some praising it whilst others voiced concerns with certain elements of the design. Amongst the criticisms are the omission of “Football Club”, or F.C. as it is abbreviated to and one Twitter user claiming it to be “Microsoft Paint-ish”.
In comparison to the current badge, introduced in 1997, it has a much more modern and clean look to it. The new design is also much simpler and brings back the Lancashire rose. It also returns to the circular badge design not seen since 1997. An important fact is that the club took feedback from fans, using a 30-day consultation period to bring together their views.
